HOCK HOUSE

This large Edwardian semi-detached property located within the Conservation Area of Harpenden was in need of a complete refurbishment. The existing house had been extended in an adhoc manner over the years and had no sense of space or flow.

The brief was to open up the existing internal spaces while extending a single storey to the side and rear of the house. The result is a stunning family home that has sympathetically restored the original Edwardian features, while also providing a large open plan footprint to the ground floor where the family spend the majority of their time.

The first and attic floors contain five double bedrooms with a spacious master suite containing a luxury ensuite shower room and walk in wardrobes. This development has given the family the additional space they needed and the style they desired, whilst giving this handsome conservation home a new lease of life.

“We worked with Howard on a total refurbishment; remodelling and extension of an unmodernised period property in Harpenden.  From the outset Howard was imaginative and collaborative as we explored various design iterations and concepts for the house once the final design was agreed.  Howard guided us in the tender process and gave continual oversight during the build.  He consistently suggested practical solutions to questions of both design and construction.  The end result is a stunning family home which combines modern practical living spaces with retained period style”.
