HOUSE ON THE HILL

Although with this project, the client’s initial expectation was for a major extension and a refurbishment of the existing 1950s house, it soon became apparent that with so many changes required to the existing house to meet the brief, a new build was the most economically viable solution.

And what a transformation it is! This beautiful home is both elegant in its design and functions perfectly as a five bedroom family home set over three floors.

The traditional Victorian aesthetic is instantly apparent and achieved with a bespoke design front porch, soft grey timber windows, clay roof tiles and chalk coloured render.  The interiors mirror this style with a striking feature timber painted staircase, checkerboard tiled entrance hall floor and stained-glass windows adorn the entrance hall.

As the site slopes downwards from front to back, this change of level is reflected inside the house with generously wide steps from the hallway down into the main family living area creating a sense of height and volume, whilst also adding an interesting split level space.
