This project presented the issue of how to extend a rather unloved 1970s house in the Green Belt. Restrictions on the increase in floor area provided an initial challenge, however, with a combination of permitted development and planning approvals, a design was created that met the requirements of the council, whilst surpassing the expectations of the client. This approach to navigate the planning system evidences our expertise in how to secure the required consent.
The brief was to radically change the appearance of the house both inside and out. A striking contemporary style was achieved by using vertical black larch cladding, a slate roof, black aluminium windows and feature panels of warm cedar cladding. The property now benefits from completely redesigned floor plans which have transformed the initial unworkable footprint, to spaces that interconnect and flow seamlessly to provide the perfect accommodation for this family's way of life.

“We appointed Howard to carry out architectural design services for the complete refurbishment and multiple extensions to our very dated 1960's house. Our house is located in the metropolitan greenbelt and had already been significantly extended. Howard helped us through what was a particularly challenging planning process in order for us to achieve the space and contemporary look that we desired.
