WARREN HOUSE
Although the client originally considered a new build because this 1970s house was no longer fit for purpose, it was determined that a radical modernisation, extension and refurbishment was the most economically viable solution. The client was looking to create a contemporary, generous accommodation space, open plan with a Danish clean lined, light filled aesthetic to the interiors.
Better connection to the expansive garden was also a priority and this was achieved by creating a level threshold transitioning the inside/outside space. The garden redesign was also part of the brief with a spacious patio seating area leading to a new contemporary gym building set within the trees in the back garden complete with a raised deck yoga area.
The large kitchen dining area faces the beautiful garden and benefits from a large vaulted ceiling with the breakfast bar island located centrally within this stylish space.
“We have worked with Howard for over 5 years. During the initial design phase, we worked through two completely different concepts. Initially we thought we wanted a super modern look, but after some sleepless nights, we didn't feel it was right.
So we went back to square one and together with Howard we come up with a very different concept; a blend of Scandinavian /traditional English which reflects our heritage. This still required many iterations and three planning permissions applications.
Throughout the process, Howard was supportive and patient. He listened to us, came up with some amazing ideas and helped us to cultivate ours. To design and build your own home is an incredibly emotional and humbling experience, but it’s also one of the most satisfying and exciting things we have ever done. The end result is our dream home and it's everything we wanted it to be and more. Thanks Howard!!!”
